Anifah: I feel proud to be sued for RM100m

(Bernama) – Trade and the economy are among the issues that will be discussed between Malaysia and China during the visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to China from June 2 to 5.

Foreign Minister Datuk Anifah Aman said a series of agreements and memorandums of understanding would also be signed between the two countries.

"China is a very important trading partner, and of course the visit is also to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China.

"The visit is to enhance bilateral relations in terms of trade and investment, exchange of ideas and also socio-cultural exchange," he told reporters at Wisma Putra, here, Friday.

Najib, who will be making the four-day visit to China at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao, is also scheduled to call on China's president Hu Jintao.

Najib will be accompanied by his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor and a delegation comprising Anifah, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, International Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Mustapa Mohamed, Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok and Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin.

On the action by Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim of filing a RM100 libel suit against him, Anifah said he felt "proud" to be sued with such a big amount.

He said this meant that he (Anifah) was influential and would feel ashamed if it was just RM1.

"If it's a RM100 million libel suit, there's a basis for it (to feel that way).

So, think…if an independent candidate in the (Penanti) by-election was offered money and posts while the outcome (of by-election) will have no effect on the position of the State Government, what more in the attempt to change the Federal Government?" he said, but declined to elaborate.

Anwar filed the suit over Anifah's statement at a joint conference in Washington with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton that Anwar had offered him the Deputy Prime Minister post if he agreed to cross over to the opposition pact after the March 8 general election last year.

Anwar, as the plaintiff, filed the suit at the Kuala Lumpur High Court on Wednesday, through Messrs SN Nair & Partners.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Anifah should now do what RPK did, refuse to layan the suit by not replying to the writ of summons. And he does not seem to realise that when you are sued for RM100 million this is not what you are worth but what the person you defamed is worth. So is he proud that this is what Anwar's credibility is worth?
