Perak: M16, Bullets and Silencers…
This morning, while browsing the internet, I found an article on MT under the heading “KDN Didesak Perjelas Isu Penemuan Senjata Api di Perak”.
The essence of the article is about the finding of eight M16, 100 bullets, several silencers in two bags in Tasek Ipoh.
2. It appears that the IGP has confirmed the story by saying that it is under investigations. The Perak CPO also indicates that the finding is related to the current political scenario. Upon reading it, I did a quick scan the internet. I could not find it on any news of the online mainstream media. I found it on MT which has quoted TV Antara as the source. This worries me.
3. In Malaysia it is not easy to own firearms. It is a well regulated affair. From the various crimes related news piece that comes out in the papers and TV; we could see that the type of weapons involved are usually small firearms like hand guns. It is usually involves the use of a non automatic weapons. Occasionally the police manage to get criminals with pump guns as well automatic pistols.
4. The finding of the M16 with plenty of bullets and silencers raised a lot of questions. Where did this M16 does come from? The M16 is a controlled item. It is in the inventory of the Malaysian police as well as the Armed Forces. The findings of silencers may suggest that it came from the government inventory. M16 was the standard rifle for Malaysian Infantry man but in the last 10 years or so there were replacement program involving Styer.
