PAS muktamar rejects move to keep top posts for ulama

In a major boost to the pro-Pakatan Rakyat faction in the Islamist party, the PAS muktamar today rejected the ulama wing's motion to reserve the top posts for them on a technicality.
"It is not accepted for the muktamar as it does not fulfil the criteria, a motion that requires constitutional amendments cannot be brought to the muktamar," information chief Datuk Mahfuz Omar told The Malaysian Insider.
Yesterday, the Dewan Ulama passed a motion to urge the party central leadership to renew its commitment in defending the leadership by the ulama.
“The post of president, deputy president and at least one vice-president must be reserved for the ulama,” read the motion tabled by the Terengganu PAS Ulama.
