Delegates want female reporters to cover up and be separated from the men

(The Star) SHAH ALAM: Several delegates at the PAS general assembly hit out at women reporters for not adhering to their recommended dress code when covering the party’s muktamar.

Penang delegate Tapiudin Hamzah and Pahang representative Yusof Embong said the dress code should be imposed on all those attending PAS functions.

They raised the matter when debating the motion of thanks on party president Datuk Seri Hadi Awang’s policy speech yesterday.

Tapiudin hit out at the women members of the media who had not covered their heads, saying that even if they did not own headscarves, they could at least make an attempt to cover their heads with handkerchiefs or even rags.

He also questioned why women members of the media were allowed to mingle freely with their male colleagues right in front of PAS leaders.

He said this contravened Islamic teachings.

Yusof asked the muktamar organisers to explain why the female members of the media had been allowed into the hall without covering their heads.

The party’s muktamar this year attracted more than 350 media members both local and foreign, a record for the party.
