Norza’s case for mention on Aug 19

(Bernama) – The Sessions Court here today fixed Aug 19 for mention of the corruption cases of former Kuala Lumpur Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohamad Norza Zakaria and his agent, Halimi Kamaruzzaman.

Judge Azuar Che Yusof fixed the date at the request of the prosecution because it had yet to receive the representations of the two from their counsel, Datuk Muhammad Shafee Abdullah and Jahaberdeen Mohd Yunoos.

Both sides were not present in court because the request was made in writing.

Mohamad Norza, 43, a former Umno supreme council member, is charged with giving a RM1,500 bribe to Khadri Musa through Halimi to distribute to the delegates as an inducement to vote for him for a supreme council seat in the Umno elections in March.

He faces a second charge of giving a RM1,900 bribe to Mohammad Anuar Yunus through Halimi for the same purpose. Both offences were allegedly committed at Pinggiran Tasek, Taman Bandar Temerloh at 6.30pm on Jan 20.

Halimi, 47, of Bandar Indera Mahkota, Kuantan, faces two charges of giving the two bribes to Khadri and Mohammad Anuar on behalf of Mohamad Norza at the same place and time.

If convicted under section 16(b)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, each could be jailed up to 20 years and fined at least five times the amount of bribe involved or RM10,000, whichever is higher.
