Selangor MB: Show proof of impropriety in contracts allocation

Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim wants to see evidence to support allegations that the Pakatan Rakyat-led (PR) administration had awarded waste management contracts to the coalition's component parties.

Khalid was asked to comment on a Malaysiakini report on Monday in which Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) councillor A Thiruvenggadam claimed the state government had a hand in allocating Alam Flora Sdn Bhd’s waste management contracts to PR parties.

Thirudvenggadam alleged the arrangement was to finance the political parties and its divisions where he claimed PKR received 40% of the deals while PAS and DAP allegedly secured 30% each.

When asked, Khalid said there would always be allegations of unfairness hurled by those unsuccessful in obtaining contracts.

"We have been experiencing allegations … Our attitude is that allegations are not enough. Show us the facts," Khalid said after launching the Selangor government's youth web portal.

Khalid also said the state government was in the midst of studying strategies for the implementation of a tender system.

Asked when the open tender system can be unveiled, Khalid said it was a continuous process and that "half a century's problem cannot be solved in a year".
