Don’t Speculate On Death In Lock-up

Bernama — The public are today urged not to make any speculation on the sudden death of A. Ganana Prakasom, who was detained in connection to a house break-in, at the Damansara police station here today.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said police were waiting for a post-mortem report from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) to ascertain the cause of his death.

“Initial investigations found that there was no foul play. However, we have to wait for the post-mortem report to know the actual cause of his death,” he told reporters here today.

Prakasom, 53, who was detained four days ago to assist police investigations into a house breaking in Sungai Buloh, was found dead in the toilet of a police lock-up at the Damansara police station at about 8am.

Arjunaidi said the body was then sent to the UMMC for a post-mortem, adding that police had contacted Prakasom’s family to identify his body.

Prakasom, who has six children, had nine previous records, including for theft, house breaking and drug related offences, he added.
