24 cops guilty of crime in 4 years

(Bernama) TWENTY-FOUR police personnel and officers were convicted in court for various offences between 2004 and 2008, the Dewan Rakyat heard yesterday.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein said six were convicted of causing injuries, four for various offences under the Police Act, four for corruption, and two for theft.

The rest were for break-ins, keeping stolen weapons, negligence resulting in the escape of a detainee, intrusion, illegal possession of firearms and drug-related offences, he said in his written reply to Karpal Singh (DAP-Bukit Gelugor).

Hishammuddin said the personnel and officers concerned had either been sentenced to jail, fined, or both, or placed on good behaviour bond.

Action would also be taken against them at the departmental level.
