Najib: Reps who do not perform will be dropped

(The Star) KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional elected representatives who do not perform and who are always complaining instead of carrying out their responsibilities will be dropped in the next general election, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

He said only those who were hard working and looked after the interest and welfare of their constituents would be allowed to contest for another term.

“But if you are not hard working and have very big mouths, that is another matter altogether. But if you are not picked to contest the next time, do not go around blaming others. Just look at yourself and your track record.

“We want to base everything on the principle of productivity and performance,” he said in response to matters raised by MPs and state assemblymen representing areas with Felda schemes during a closed-door dialogue at Wisma Felda here last night.

Earlier, he said the global financial crisis had increased competition for the scant public funds available.

“Plans for educational initiatives that were formulated in better economic times have been put on hold,” he said in his opening speech at the 17th Conference of Commonwealth Education Min- isters here.

Najib warned that severe cuts in education during the crisis would result in reduced education quality.
