PSC confident PAS will stay with PR

(The Edge) KUALA LUMPUR: PAS will not be banding with Umno and remains committed to the Pakatan Rakyat (PR), said PAS Supporters' Club (PSC).

PSC president N Balasubramaniam said amid all the talk and controversy surrounding the unity government, he did not see the possibility of PAS joining Umno.

"Umno wants Malay majority to ensure they stay in power. That is why they ask PAS to talk. They are scared," he said.

Balasubramaniam said if Umno wanted PAS to join them, then they should dissolve the Perak legislative assembly and give Kelantan its oil royalty.

PSC deputy president Vincent Lee echoed the sentiment and said he remained confident in Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang's leadership.

"There is no way that he will talk about unity government. During the (recent) muktamar (general assembly), he talked about discussion but did not mention unity government.

"Engaging or having discussions with the enemy is permitted in Islam," said Lee.

He said judging from the way PAS fought Umno in the 1970s, there seemed little chance of PAS forming a government with Umno and Barisan Nasional.

Lee also believed that PAS deputy president Nasharudin Mat Isa had merely voiced his personal opinion.

He said the unity government issue was not even approved at a central working committee meeting, hence Nasharudin was in essence making a personal statement when he welcomed Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak's comment that PAS was sincere in holding talks on unity.

While both Balasubramaniam and Lee were confident that PAS would remain a PR partner, the Kelantan PSC said recently that leaders who were pro-unity government should not hit the campaign trail for the upcoming Manek Urai by-election.
