Hisham: Probe Boo over ‘seditious remarks’

(The Star) KOTA BARU: Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein has directed the police to investigate Johor DAP head Dr Boo Cheng Hau for apparently uttering remarks which could be seen as seditious.

The Home Minister said he was informed that Dr Boo had repeated claims that Malaysia practised apartheid similar to the once-infamous South African governance system.

Dr Boo, who is the Skudai assemblyman, was reported to have made the remark at the Johor state legislative assembly last year and had allegedly repeated it at a Chinese Society Association function in Batu Pahat last Tuesday.

“Stop it. I will not compromise if someone under the freedom of expression or democracy makes a totally untrue remark which can threaten security and peace,” said Hishammuddin.

“There is no compromise for a naughty remark which is designed to sow hatred,” he added after attending a briefing on security preparations for today’s nomination of the Manek Urai by-election.

Hishammuddin said although Dr Boo’s remark was first made under the confines of the state assembly where assemblymen enjoyed immunity, there was a limit to what could be uttered at the sitting.

“We will study the scope of the immunity accorded.

“We cannot compromise if it is seditious,” he added.

Hishammuddin said he had been studying the manner in which some quarters in the Opposition practised politics.

“They politicised issues at all costs,” he said.

“They also withhold of any responsibility and do not care if the country descends into chaos,” Hishamuddin added.
