Anti-graft NGO lodges reports on appointment of PKA chairman, Khir’s house

(Bernama) – The People’s Movement Against Corruption (Gerak) lodged a report with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today on the alleged abuse of power in the appointment of the Port Klang Authority (PKA) chairman and the controversial luxury bungalow owned by former Selangor menteri besar, Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo.

Gerak chairman Mohd Nazree Mohd Yunos lodged the report and submitted the relevant documents to a Selangor MACC officer at the commission’s office, here at 10.40 am.

When met by reporters later, Mohd Nazree said Gerak had lodged a report to the MACC on the allegation of a possible power abuse in the appointment of the PKA chairman, Datuk Lee Hwa Beng.

“The report was made on Gerak’s own initiative based on our observation and research on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) issue. We notice there is something abnormal in the matter (appointment of PKA Chairman) in terms of procedures,” he said.

Asked whether the report was made against Transport Minister Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, Mohd Nazree said: “That, you have to ask the relevant minister. I cannot disclose who are involved because the MACC advised us not to do so in order to to facilitate investigation.”

The PKFZ, a 405-hectare hub for the movement of cargo has been dragged into controversy after it was exposed that its construction cost had escalated from RM2.5 billion to RM4.6 billion.

In addition, Mohd Nazree said Gerak had also lodged a report on the purchase of two bungalow lots at Section 7, here by Dr Mohamad Khir which was alleged by the Sekinchan Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim, to have cost RM24 million.

“The report was made after we referred to a website which posted the controversial bungalow owned by Dr Mohamad Khir as well as the press report today on the allegation by the Sekinchan Assemblyman on the same issue. We want the MACC to take appropriate action if the allegation was proven to be true,” he said.
