It’s just rumours, says Liow of talk about Chua Jui Meng defecting

(Bernama) — MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai has refuted speculation that MCA veteran Datuk Chua Jui Meng is joining the opposition and expressed confidence that Chua will stay with the party.

“I didn’t hear any news from him (Datuk Chua) regarding this (joining the opposition party), he is the former MCA vice-president and has been contributing to the party and the nation. The speculation could be just rumour,” he told reporters when asked to comment on speculation that Chua will be joining the opposition.

Liow was met by reporters after launching the ‘Power Over Cervical Cancer Awareness Campaign’ jointly organised by the National Cancer Society Malaysia at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac), Sentul here today.

“I, myself didn’t get anything (news) from him, we used to contact each other in the past, I believe he will stay with the party,” he said.

Chua, 64, who is also a former health minister, has been Bakri MCA division chief for 23 years.

An emergency meeting of the Bakri MCA division had be called tonight to discuss Chua’s position as chairman.

The meeting will be held at the division office in Jalan Bakri, Muar, Johor.
