Teoh was to register his marriage today, says fiancee

(The Star) KLANG: Teoh Beng Hock, who was to register his marriage with his fiancee Sue Sue Quay today had planned to quit as political secretary to Selangor legislative assembly member Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Sue, 28, when met at the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital mortuary here last night, said Teoh had told her that the job was too hectic for him.

“I was supposed to get a transfer and move to his hometown in Malacca and he was to move there soon after,” said Sue.

Sue, a schoolteacher in Semenyih, added they had also planned to go on a honeymoon after the registration.

Among those at the mortuary were Ean Yong and Pandamaran assemblyman Ronnie Liu.

A small fracas broke out when mortuary staff refused to allow Liu to see Teoh’s remains that arrived at about 9.30pm.

They latched the door from inside the room, resulting in an angry Liu to kick the door thrice.

When the latch gave way, Liu and his driver went in and a short argument ensued.

The mortuary staff, however, allowed Sue and Teoh’s siblings to view the body.

Teoh’s friends and former colleagues from Sin Chew Jit Poh could not believe that he would end his life in such a tragic way as they described him as a reporter who was soft-spoken, sincere, dedicated to his work and someone who had “faith in life”.

“He would not take his own life just like that,’’ said Tan Yu Chyan, also a former journalist with the Chinese daily.

Tan, who was based in the newspaper’s Putrajaya bureau, said Teoh, who worked in the Kajang office, had resigned to become Ean Yong’s political secretary in April last year.

“We were supposed to meet for dinner last week but he could not make it.

“He telephoned me yesterday (Wednesday) morning but I was busy and could not talk to him,’’ he said.
