Mobile phone and other posers for investigators in Teoh’s case

Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed today that Teoh Beng Hock’s mobile phone was in the possession of an anti-corruption investigating officer, leading to questions about whether the dead DAP activist had been “released” as claimed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

The MACC maintains the 30-year-old political secretary was released at 3.45am on Thursday morning after being questioned at its Selangor headquarters in Shah Alam.

Khalid would not elaborate further to reporters today regarding the significance of the mobile phone, but would only say that investigators were now going through the call records.

Question marks also remained today over why police investigators only decided to seize closed-circuit television recordings from the MACC office yesterday, three days after Teoh’s body was found in suspicious circumstances.

Khalid said today that according to a post-mortem, Teoh died between four and five hours before his body was found at 1.30pm on Thursday.

The police chief said investigators had so far obtained 33 statements from witnesses, including 22 from MACC officers.

Statements have also been recorded from Teoh's boss and state executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah and his lawyer M. Manoharan.
