Cracks in school building

(Bernama) KUNAK: A total of 980 students of SMK Kunak Jaya here were forced to study in the canteen and hall after cracks appeared in several parts of the school, including the floor and walls.

A teacher, who did not want to be named, said the cracks had been appearing over the past three weeks.

The teacher was speaking after Silam member of parliament Saleh Kalbi visited the school yesterday.

He said the cracks were believed to have appeared after an earthquake measuring a 3.5 on the Richter scale hit Kunak two months ago.

Officials from the Education Department, Public Works Department and Public Works Institute of Malaysia visited the school but had yet to verify whether the school was safe for occupation, he added.
