Police confirm probe of Teoh’s phone records


(MySinchew) – Selangor police chief Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar confirmed with Sin Chew Daily on Wednesday that communication records on Teoh Beng Hock's handphone were being investigated.

He said Teoh's handphone and some of his personal belongings provided very important clues to his mysterious fall from Plaza Masalam last week, and the police were currently conducting the investigation works.

It is understood that the police have started recovering some of the SMS messages which have been deleted from Teoh's handphone. He said the police also sought the assistance of telecommunication company for SMS contents received or sent from Teoh's handphone over the past one month.

When asked to comment on whether the police had the ability to recover the deleted phone records and even other information from Teoh's handphone, Khalid said he had absolute confidence that the information on Teoh's handphone could be recovered and that the information would be very crucial to police investigations.

However, Khalid refused to elaborate on the direction of the police's investigations at this moment, saying instead that announcement would be made as soon as possible.

He also said the police would update the public on the progress of the investigation works from time to time.

Teoh's personal belongings, including his suitcase, notebook and handphone, were kept by the investigating officers when he was summoned by the Selangor MACC on 15 July. These things have subsequently come to the hands of the police after the tragic incident.

Over the past few days, the police have summoned a total of 45 people to give their statements, among whom 25 MACC officers, two pakatan state assemblymen, five from Teoh's family as well as reporters.

According to police information, Teoh's handphone and suitcase were kept in the locker by MACC officers after he was brought to the Selangor MACC headquarters.

According to the information, these personal belongings remained at the locker until the second day, when these things were handed over to the police.

The information also pointed out that Teoh's handphone had been switched off before it was kept by the MACC.
