MIC to help Kg Buah Pala

(The Star) BUTTERWORTH: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu will meet Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng soon to help resolve the Kampung Buah Pala issue.

“I telephoned him today and told him that I will return to Penang in the next few days to meet him.

“We will try to find a way to settle this matter,” he said before opening the Penang MIC convention here yesterday.

Samy Vellu also said MIC was willing to help the state pay RM3.2mil to the developer, Nusmetro Ventures (P) Sdn Bhd as compensation for the revocation of approvals on its proposed apartment project in Kampung Buah Pala.

“If the state wants us to pay the compensation on behalf of the residents, we are willing to pay the amount, so that the land can be surrendered to them,” he said.

Ready to help: Samy Vellu listening to problems faced by MIC members after opening the state MIC convention at the Dewan Sree Mariamman in Butterworth Sunday.

On former vice-president Datuk S.S. Subramanian joining PKR, he said it was not a loss to the MIC.

He said Subramaniam did not do justice to the previous positions that he held to help the community.

“A person, upon being given the posts of MP, parliamentary secretary and a few others, if he does not serve the people, we will eventually withdraw the posts from him.

“And, if he still desires to find new posts in the PKR, I wish him well,” he said.

Subramaniam, 73, had on Saturday announced that he was joining PKR, along with about 2,700 MIC members from 13 branches in Selangor.

Samy said the figures quoted by Subramaniam were not true, noting that only 300 members had left the party with him.

On a another matter, Samy Vellu said the party was amending its constitution to allow new branches to be formed with only 60 members, instead of the present minimum of 110 members.
