Murugiah, the rightful PPP president?

(Malaysian Mirror) – Senator T Murugiah, who is embroiled in leadership crisis with PPP president M Kayveas, is hopeful that he will be declared the rightful president of the party.

Murugiah, who is also Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department, said his assessement was based on the strong support he is receiving from the grassroots as well as the manner of how the party's extra ordinary meeting (EGM) was convened.

'90% behind me'

"(My) chances are very good. I believe I will lead the party, just a matter of time. Looking at the scenario, with the EGM convened, I believe I am the rightful president. Almost 90 percent of the grassroots are supporting me," he told reporters after meeting with PPP Kuala Lumpur division members here, Sunday.

Murugiah was the party's youth chief when he was sacked by Kayvaes in May and following that, Murugiah's supporters had held a EGM on May 24 and declared him the president.

However, at the party's general assembly last month, Kayvaes retained his presidency unopposed.

The leadership feud is still being investigated by Registrar of Companies (ROS).
