Police chief: It’s our duty to be thorough

(The Star) PETALING JAYA: Police investigations into Teoh Beng Hock’s death would be carried out thoroughly even if it impedes the MACC’s investigations into the alleged misappropriation of state allocations involving seven Selangor assemblymen and executive councillors.

Selangor police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said the police have to fulfil their duties by investigating the case fully.

“We had no choice, investigations must be done thoroughly even if it causes inconvenience to parties involved,” he said when contacted.

He was responding to claims by Selangor MACC director Ja’afar Mahad that the police investigation into Teoh’s death was slowing down the commission’s own investigations.

DCP Khalid said what happened was unavoidable as the police have to carry out their responsibilities impartially.

Ja’afar had earlier said the police had been coming to the MACC office to carry out checks, question its officers and take their hand phones, adding that it has affected their investigations.

So far, 16 MACC officers who were involved in the investigations had been questioned by the police.
