Samy Vellu: PKR will regret move

(NST) BUTTERWORTH: MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu has congratulated the party's former vice-president Datuk S.S. Subramaniam for quitting MIC and joining Parti Keadilan Rakyat.

He also congratulated PKR for taking him.

He said Subramaniam, who was the former parliamentary secretary of the International Trade and Industry Ministry and Segamat member of parliament, had been removed from all his posts as he had failed to serve the people well during his tenure.

"It is good that he left MIC for PKR. I want PKR to know this — what happened to us is bound to happen to you in future," he said before opening the state MIC's 63rd annual delegates conference here yesterday.

On Saturday, Subramaniam said he had joined PKR for the sake of unity as the party brought all races together.

"I feel this is the party for the future. I joined the party on my own free will."

Samy Vellu dismissed claims that about 1,600 MIC members had left the party to join Subramaniam.

"That is not true. Only 300 members left. Anyway, this will not affect the running of the respective branches."

On yesterday's event, Samy Vellu said the MIC delegates conference in September would look into the possibility of amending the party's constitution to allow the setting up of new branches with just 60 people instead of the current 110 people.
