Appeal against Ramli’s acquittal

(The Star) – An appeal has been filed against a Sessions Court decision to acquit suspended Bukit Aman Commercial Crimes Investigation Department director Datuk Ramli Yusuff of a charge of abusing his powers two years ago.

Officials from the Deputy Public Prosecutors office here filed the notice of appeal against the ruling of Judge Supang Lian at the High Court registry here at 2.30pm Tuesday.

In her ruling on Monday, Supang held that Ramli had no case to answer as the prosecution had failed to establish a prima facie case against him.

The 56-year-old Ramli was charged under Section 15 (1) of the Anti-Corruption Act for abusing his public office through the unauthorised use of a police Cessna Caravan aircraft for pecuniary gain.

The offence was allegedly committed at 7.50am at the Sabah Police Air Unit in Tanjung Aru here.
