EC to announce Permatang Pasir by-election date before Aug 10

(Bernama) – The Election Commission (EC) is expected to announce the nomination and polling dates for the Permatang Pasir state by-election by Aug 10.

EC Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the seat fell vacant following the death of the incumbent, Datuk Mohd Hamdan Abdul Rahman.

The EC expected to receive the notice on the vacancy for the seat from the Penang State Assembly Speaker, Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, by Monday, following which a meeting would be held to discuss the dates, he said when contacted by Bernama.

Meanwhile, Abdul Halim said he was waiting for the death certificate before senting the the notice of vacancy to the Penang EC.

He said the state assembly would sit for five days from Aug 10 and Mohd Hamdan had submitted several written questions for the session.
