The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said today it has lodged a police report over the circulation on the Internet of a video clip and an article about a man being assaulted by several men allegedly during an interrogation.

It said in a statement that the circulation of the video clip and the article was an irresponsible act which was purposely done by the blogger to portray the MACC as an enforcement agency which was cruel and untrustworthy.

"It is also intended to raise hatred in the people against the MACC and garner public sympathy in the interests of the agenda of certain quarters," it said, adding the police report would enable investigation under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The statement also said that the action of the blogger linking the matter to the death of Selangor political aide Teoh Beng Hock was akin to alleging that the MACC had been cruel and had not adhered to investigation standards, so much so as to cause Teoh's death. (Bernama)
