Traders have till Friday to file complaints against GMI

(Bernama) – Shopkeepers and traders along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, who suffered losses due to the anti-ISA demonstration last Saturday, have until Friday to file their complaints with the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB).

Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk T Murugiah said the bureau needed the reports to enable it to assess losses incurred by shopkeepers and traders.

"This does not mean that we are going to compensate them. We want to study how much losses were incurred by shopkeepers and traders as a result of an action by irresponsible people," he told reporters at the PCB here today.

Murugiah said the PCB would assist the shopkeepers and traders in suing the organiser of the demonstration, the Movement for the Abolition of the ISA (GMI) for their losses and damages.

"So far, we have received five complaints and we hope more shopkeepers and traders will come forward," he added.

In another development, he asked all government departments and agencies to act fast on public complaints.

He said disciplinary actions could be taken against civil servants who took public complaints lightly.

Earlier, Murugiah received a complaint from ex-employees of the defunct Len Omnibus Sdn Bhd over its failure to make contributions to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
