A blueprint for rules on Net etiquette

(NST) KUALA LUMPUR: Home Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein will hold a meeting on Wednesday to find solutions to issues pertaining to Internet postings on race, religion and the royalty.

The meeting will be attended by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, Information, Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and officials from the Attorney-General's Chambers and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

"Such postings on the Internet can cause a lot of tension and clashes. Before that happens, it is best that we do something about it," he said after launching the Lembah Pantai Umno divisional meeting here yesterday.

Hishammuddin stressed that this did not mean that the government was considering censoring the Internet.

"That is not our aim. We are looking at safeguarding the nation's fundamentals and not have it threatened through blog postings on the Internet. "

He said that the findings from the meeting on Wednesday would be used as a template for future cases involving such matters.
