Speaker: Don’t attend meeting
(Malaysian Mirror) – Perak assembly Speaker R Ganesan said it is not necessary for members of the House to attend a sitting on Wednesday, which he said was called by an unauthoritative source.
He said it is strange for Tronoh member V Sivakumar to call for the meeting as he is no longer the Speaker of the assembly.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Ganesan said Sivakumar still wants to impersonate and act like a Speaker and called for the meeting when there is not even going to be a state assembly sitting on that day.
“I urge all state assemblymen to just ignore the directive from the Tronoh representative, based on the decision of the House on May 7 by a majority voice to remove him as the assembly Speaker and to appoint me, instead, as the new Speaker,” he said.
'An attempt to create instability'
Ganesan lodge a police report on Saturday, asking the police to investiage the matter and take the relevant action against Sivakumar.
He alleged that Sivakumar has no authority to call for the meeting and accused the Tronoh assemblyman of intending to create instability in the statre administration.
Assemblymen from PAS, the DAP and PKR had attempted in March to hold a sitting of the state assembly in March but were prevented from entering the legislative House; prompting the 28 representatives to hold their meeting at an adjoin vacant lot. This was the infamous “assembly under the tree.”
Ganesan said Article 36 of the Perak state constituency rules that the authority to call for a state assembly meeting is within the authority of the Sultan of Perak.
'An act of treason'
“The state assembly sitting has to get the royal consent and His Majesty will decide on the date, time and place for the meeting, which will be gazetted according to the standing orders of the state assembly.
“This has always been the ruling,” he said, adding that the action by Sivakumar could be construed as an attempt “to seize power” and an act of treason against the royal institution of Perak.
Ganesan added he will not hesitate to take action, as empowered to him by the state assembly, against Sivakumar and other related parties in the Wednesday’s meeting
