Kedah govt may seek legal action

(NST) ALOR STAR: The Pas-led state government will consider seeking legal redress over the Election Commission's decision that Datuk Abu Hassan Sarif of Barisan Nasional is still the assemblyman for Kota Siputeh.

"We go by the book and we had expected the seat to be made vacant," said Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak.

"We are still in the dark over the decision and we want to hear more from the commission."

Abu Hassan, who was relieved by the commission's decision, said he had not done anything wrong.

"I knew all along that I was never in the wrong. I could not attend the sitting because I was very sick and it was unavoidable.

"I have been the Kota Siputeh assemblyman for four terms since 1995 and my service record is unblemished."

Asked on his present health condition, Abu Hassan said it had improved tremendously.

"In fact, this matter has made me even more determined to get healthier so that I can serve my constituents better."
