PKR Claims 600 Perak BN Members To Join Party On Saturday

(Bernama) — Some 600 members of Perak Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties are expected to join Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) on Saturday, former Lumut Member of Parliament Datuk Dr Yap Yit Thong said.

Yap, a former Ipoh Timur MCA vice-chairman who joined PKR in July along with former Health Minister Datuk Chua Jui Meng and former senator David Yeoh, said the ceremony to receive the BN members would take place at the Tow Boo Keong Hall here.

He claimed that 90 per cent of them were from MCA, Umno, MIC and PPP while the rest had never joined any party before.

"Most of them are from MCA, coming from Ipoh Barat, Ipoh Timur, Batu Gajah, Gopeng, Tambun, Kampar, Taiping and Lumut," he told a news conference at the Perak KPR office here Thursday.

He also claimed that there would be more Perak MCA members joining the party after the coming MCA extraordinary general meeting.

"This is only the first wave," he said, adding that the decision by MCA members to join PKR had nothing to do with the recent sacking of MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
