IGP: Planned candlelight vigil illegal

(The Star) PETALING JAYA: A planned candlelight vigil at Dataran Merdeka today to protest the “cow’s head protest” is illegal and action will be taken against its participants, said the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

“There is no need to hold any sort of demonstration. Why a need to unnecessarily flout the law?” said Musa after witnessing the handing over of 6,414 Hari Raya Aidilfitri kuih packages from the Members of the Police Family Association (Perkep) led by his wife Puan Sri Juriah Ahmad.

The packages will be distributed to officers working during the festive period in countries such as Timor Leste, Sudan and China as well as officers in embassies worldwide and border patrol units.

Residents of Section 23 in Shah Alam had staged a protest last week against the Pakatan Rakyat-led Selangor Government’s decision to relocate a 150-year-old temple from Section 19 to their Malay-majority area.
