Shah Alam Temple Demo: Do the right thing and not the popular thing

A friend calls me today questioning me about my writing about the demo in Shah Alam. He wasn’t too sure about the facts surrounding the case on why the temple cannot stay in its original location in Section 19.

I explained to him in great details and our discussion went into other related issues with regards to the famous 50 OTB (Orang Tak Bertamadun) demonstrated in the manner that he did. We spent 37 minutes exchanging views and both of us agreed that what is needed is to do the right thing and not doing the popular thing.

2.  I wanted to go to Shah Alam and listen to the Town Hall meeting organized by MBSA but I was told that the meeting is restricted to the residents of Section 23. From the feedback of friends that attended the meeting and from what was reported, I just want to say that the gathering was not a meeting but a “shouting match” which was started by a group of young Malay residents who was involved in the recent demo. They behave like thugs.

3.    I am disappointed for the second time. Instead of listening and giving views, they shouted and call Rodziah and Khalid Samad by names. It was a forum to share views and opinion but they have turned it into a circus. Again, I am ashamed of this OTB who called themselves Muslims. They went on to defame the religion with their conduct. It makes me wonder what their real motives are. Could it be that they just want to create and prolong issues instead of finding solutions as part of political strategy?

4.    It must be difficult for Khalid Samad, the MP and the MB of Selangor. They have to consider the political pressure as well as the need to accommodate everyone fairly based on the law of the country. Personally, I feel the law of the country must prevail and not the law of the jungle that pushed by this thugs.

5.     At the moment, what I see is that the Hishamuddin, Mukhriz and Khir Toyo have not acted fairly in giving their views. They took sides. Well I could understand the reason behind Khir  and Mukhriz where their actions which are purely political but I cannot accept the Home Minister statement. He was talking in the capacity as a Home Minister and he should have acted in a fair manner but he did not do so.
