Setback for Chua’s faction

The Central Delegates EGM Action Committee, the faction supporting sacked MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek, suffered a setback when the party’s secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng ignored its three-day deadline to exchange information on resolutions for an impending extraordinary general meeting (EGM).
Datuk Seri Tan Chai Ho, who heads the Action Committee, however is still hopeful for the exchange of information on the resolutions to ensure only one EGM is held by the two factions.
“We are very sincere to want to cooperate with the secretary-general so that only one EGM would be held. Our president’s EGM resolutions must be shown to us so that we can discuss with each other and agree to have one EGM,” said Tan who had last Saturday given Wong three days to reveal Ong’s proposed resolutions for the EGM.
The faction aligned to Chua is calling for an EGM to seek delegates’ endorsement for the reinstatement of the sacked deputy president. Their move was countered by party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat calling for an EGM to seek once again the confidence of central delegates in the light of the sacking of his deputy.
Ong also is going back to the delegates amidst allegations by Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing that he had “donated” RM10 million to the MCA party chief, which Ong has denied.
Tan told reporters at Wisma MCA that they would wait until an appropriate time to make the next move while adding that revealing the resolutions was important if a consensus was to be reached to hold a single EGM.
On whether his faction had garnered the required 800 signatures from central delegates to call for an EGM on their own, something that Wong doubts, Tan said he has more than the required number.
He said the faction only wanted to know the contents of the president’s proposed resolution to facilitate a single EGM.
Tan told reporters said he was still open for discussions and willing to sit down to discuss.
“My doors are still open wide and I don’t want to talk about deadline. If I can’t wait then I will take action which is to submit the requisition,” said Tan when pressed if he was going to set another deadline.
Wong had previously said that resolutions would be given to the party’s 2,400 central delegates as part of the notice for EGM.
