Rakyat didahulukan? Pembangunan diutamakan?

By Charles Gau, KADAYAN JOURNAL

Here are our rewards, by BN elites.

We are now getting more and more information about the proposed new 12 dams to be built in Sarawak including the one in Baram.

The contractor for these proposed dams is a company from China, which is now involved in the Bakun Dam construction and wants to deploy its equipment from there to build these new 12 dams.

The Chinese government will initially provide finance for the construction of the 12 dams but of course Sarawakians will pay for their huge costs later like the now very controversial Port Klang project!

We all know how shrewd or dirty Chinese companies from China operate all over the world with sub- substandard quality of works, etc.

A few of our State political leaders went to China recently to “negotiate” with the Chinese companies involved. What were “negotiated”?

We are all not told.

The State law, i.e. the Natural Resources and Environment Ordinance requires Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study to be done and approved before such dams are to be implemented. However, despite of the EIA for Murum dam in Belaga has yet to be completed and approved.

The Chinese company has been allowed by the Sarawak Government to commenced construction activities at the site.

The Sarawak Government and the Chinese company ignore the views and objections by the people of the 6 villages, which are directly affected by the Murum dam.

This is what we meant, and we fear when we say the Sarawak government and Chinese company just want to bulldoze their way through in implementing the 12 dams without respect for the law and the rights and views of the affected people.

Remember, Sarawak belongs to all Sarawakians, its not Taib Mahmud’s “personal property”.

Taib is not the SULTAN of Sarawak; he cannot just dictate his will over Sarawakians!

All Sarawakians especially the people directly affected, whose lands, crops, houses and properties would be lost or flooded by the dams, they therefore have every right to air and demand for their views and rights to be considered and expected in the process.

As taxpayers, our future generations and we will also have to bear the huge financial and environmental costs for the dams in future.

Also remember that Sarawak BN leaders started the company First Silicon in Kuching whereby Sarawak spent hundreds of millions of ringgit, what happened to it now?
