Samy Vellu: ‘Subra cannot be forgiven’

(The Star) – MIC will continue with the disciplinary action against former deputy president Datuk S. Subramaniam who failed in his bid to regain the number two post on Saturday.

MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Subramaniam would also be referred to the disciplinary committee for bringing in more than 500 youths, believed to be gangsters to disrupt the meeting on Saturday.

“The disciplinary committee will decide on the charges to be preferred against Subramaniam. We will definitely haul him before the committee,” he told reporters here Sunday.

“We have compiled the details of the youths and have informed the relevant authorities,” he said.

Last week, Samy Vellu said the party would sent a show cause letter to Subramaniam over the allegations of stolen votes issue raised by former vice president Datuk V. Govindaraj in 1977.

Incumbent Datuk G. Palanivel retained the deputy president post. He got 629 votes to Subramaniam’s 547 votes while vice president Datuk S. Sothinathan came in third with 280 votes.

Samy Vellu said Subramaniam must ask his newspaper, Makkal Osai to stop publishing lies aimed at undermining the credibility of the MIC.

He alleged that Subramaniam was willing to destroy the party for the sake of winning the deputy president post in the party.

“He (Subramaniam) was willing to go to the full extent including seeking outside help to achieve his aim of winning the post. He can’t be forgiven, he said.

He said more than 500 youths, wearing Subramaniam’s t-shirts were brought to PWTC with to frighten the delegates into voting for him.

“Some of them also came into the hall when the voting was in progress and we had a tough time getting them out of the hall.

“I have never seen such an incident during the MIC general assembly. This is the first time,” he said.

On Subramaniam’s statement that he had lost in the deputy president contest due to money politics, Samy Vellu said that they also had concrete evidence that the former deputy president had also practised money politics.

Samy Vellu said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had given friendly advice to all component parties in Barisan Nasional and was not referring to the delegates to elect anyone.

“We are very happy the Prime Minister spoke his mind and we will work hard to bring back the Indian community to Barisan,” he said.
