IGP: Internal threat more dangerous than external forces

(The Star) DEMONSTRATORS within the nation have brought more harm to Malaysia than external security threats, Sin Chew Daily reported.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan was quoted as saying that the nation’s current political condition had caused bigger challenges to the country’s security forces.

“You can easily identify enemies or threats from other countries but you have to be extra cautious when you look at your own country and the dangers from within,” he said.

Certain quarters, who like to hold demonstrations and disregard the law, had brought harm to the country, he said, adding: “Do you think it is permissible to demonstrate without any permit? This is not possible because the law has stated that any demonstration will have to be organised with a permit.

“Please do not assume that protests can be held in states that are ruled by the Opposition.”

On his relationship with Pakatan Rakyat, Musa said he had no problem working with the coalition.

“We (the police force) never take sides because we are independent.”
