Minister among those to be hauled up in leaked ‘PKFZ Cabinet paper’ case

(Bernama) KUALA LUMPUR: A minister is expected to be among a number of individuals to be hauled up by police for questioning, in connection with the leaked 'Cabinet Papers' on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) case, said Federal Police Chief Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

However, Musa did not reveal the name of the minister or the individuals who will be hauled up to facilitate investigations as to how the cabinet papers, classified as Official Secrets Act (OSA) documents found its way to a website.

"Police will call those believed to be involved, including a minister," he told reporters after visiting the Ampang Jaya police headquarters here today.

The purported 'Cabinet Paper' posted on a website regarding the RM12.5 billion PKFZ project, had incurred the wrath of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak who denounced the act, because such documents were covered by the OSA.

The 18-page 'Cabinet Paper' is purportedly a memorandum by the Finance Ministry in June 2007, to seek the cabinet’s approval to retrospectively approve a RM4.6 billion soft loan to fund the PKFZ project.

Musa added that he did not want to comment further on the issue as investigations were in progress.

Meanwhile, Musa added that policemen in plainclothes and using unidentified vehicles would conduct rounds at crime 'hot spots' for effectively combating criminal activities in such areas.

"I have discussed the option and such policemen will be deployed throughout the country in stages. In fact, we have already started implementing the move in some areas," said Musa.

He added that such patrolling exercises would also be carried out at goldsmith outlets to prevent such targets being vulnerable to robberies, especially during the festive seasons.

"We also urge owners of goldsmith shops to be vigilant and be on the alert, especially during festive seasons," he said.
