MCA’s black humour

By Tay Tian Yan (Sin Chew Daily)

The MCA central committee's decision has created a black humour kind of effect.

The CC has lightened the penalty slapped on Chua Soi Lek from a termination of membership to "four-year suspension."

On the surface, the CC seems to be particularly lenient to Chua.

From indefinite period to only four years, the difference is indeed very big!

If this has happened to former Taiwan president Chen Shui-bian, he should have thanked his ancestors for the great blessing and started conceiving plans for a comfortable retirement in the US four years down the road!

Similarly, the CC also appears to be merciless to Ong Tee Keat by overruling his decision to remove Chua.

That will mean a world of insult for a person with such strong character like him.

But things don't work this way!

Appearing relaxed and jubilant, Tee Keat recited the CC's decision as his marshals clapped in unison,

On the other hand, Chua seems to be least perturbed by a lighter sentence, wagging his fury at the central committee for coming up with such a decision.

While the CC appears to be "rectifying" the misjudgement of Ong Tee Keat, it actually lends him a much needed helping hand!

Many MCA members, including central delegates, have been very unhappy with Ong's obstinacy and heavy-handedness in handling things.

For instance, sure enough he can take actions against Chua, but by passing such a drastic verdict, he is seen to have indirectly denied the ballots of central delegates and hence offended many of them.

These irate central delelgates may want to show him some colours in the coming EGM!

The decision made by the central committee before the EGM is seen as a "pacifying" sort of action. While on the one hand, the CC has slapped a very light penalty on Ong, on the other hand it declares that Chua is not dismissed and the central delegates should therefore not get excessively frustrated.

That will significantly reduced the stress upon Ong in the upcoming EGM.

Having said that, a "four-year suspension" is no difference from "life imprisonment."

Four-year suspension will put Chua away from the next party elections as well as the general elections.

To a 64-year-old, that will spell the demise of his political career!

Moreover, Chua's supporters have wanted to go out in full swing to topple Ong in the coming EGM, but now they will have to first cross the hurdles set up by the CC.
