200,000 Yet To Register As Voters In Kelantan

(Bernama) — Over 200,000 Kelantanese who are eligible to vote have not registered themselves with the Election Commission (EC) to carry out their democratic duty, said Kelantan EC director Ab Rahim Md Salleh.

He said of the 200,000 invididuals, 60 per cent were those aged 21 and above who were either still studying in universities or were working.

He said the EC was looking for ways to attract the public to register as voters for the coming general election.

“So far the EC has not found the reason why state residents fail to register although they are eligible to vote,” he told reporters at an Aidilfitri celebration held at his office, here today.

The EC, he said, had launched several campaigns statewide such as mobile counters in public areas like shopping complexes, as well as announcements through electronic and print media for this purpose.

Ab Rahim added that presently there were 761,595 voters registered in Kelantan and that the number was regularly updated.
