Good guilt, bad guilt – Is there such a thing?

By The Middle Ground

According to our Home Minister Kerismuddin, there is good guilt and then there is bad guilt. He meant this in defense of Isa Samad's selection as UMNO/BN candidate for the up-coming by-election in N31 – Bagan Pinang, Negeri Sembilan as reported by The Malaysian Insider HERE.

Amongst the "attributes" considered by UMNO's top leadership when selecting Isa, is his loyalty to the party that despite being found guilty by the party for money politics, Isa did not bad mouth the party hence he is categorized under "good" guilt!

Is that all it takes to be an UMNO peoples' representative?

What about morality, honesty and character? Isn't the character of a man exemplified by past behavior which is an important indicator of what he is capable of doing in the future? Is this not how we judge people, by past deeds or misdeeds?

Excuse me if I'm ignorant but shouldn't a peoples' representative be one who has this attribute? The ability to understand the concerns of those whom he would like to represent and be worthy of elevation to a position of leadership to these people!

By selecting a tainted candidate like Isa, isn't UMNO's top leadership insulting the good folks of Bagan Pinang by telling the 13,000+ voters that despite Isa's baggage, he is still "worthy" enough for you pathetic voters?
