DAP: EC already showing bias in B Pinang

(Malaysian Mirror) – Negeri Sembilan DAP has slammed the Election Commission for disallowing political parties not contesting in the Bagan Pinang by-election from erecting campaign materials such as flags and logos in the constituency.

We are part of Pakatan Rakyat. Naturally the billboards and banners will carry the symbols of all the three parties,” state chief Loke Siew Fook told reporters on Friday.

EC deputy chairman Wan Ahmad Wan Omar has said that apart from the contesting political parties, others do not pay the campaign material deposit. As such, they would not be allowed to hang up their posters and other paraphernalia

Ready to pay

Apart from a deposit of RM5,000 for contesting a state seat, political parties are also required to pay an additional RM3,000 deposit for putting up campaign material.

“If that is their concern, we will pay the RM3,000 deposit so we can put up DAP flags all over Bagan Pinang,” Loke retorted.

Wan Ahmad also said that Pakatan, unlike Barisan Nasional, was not a registered coalition and could not campaign under its name.

According to Loke, the DAP has received a letter from EC secretary Ngah Senik, reminding the party not to set service booths at the polling centres on balloting day, which falls on Oct 11.

“We are aware of such a ruling. But the question is will the EC can enforce this ruling on BN? Can the EC make sure BN will follow the ruling?” said Loke.
