‘Probe Murad’s claim on Anwar’

(NST) – KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth wants the police to investigate opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim over an allegation made 10 years ago by former Bank Negara assistant governor Datuk Abdul Murad Khalid.

Murad, in a statutory declaration, claimed that the former deputy prime minister had RM3 billion in funds.

However, Murad has since withdrawn the allegation.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said although the statutory declaration was made a long time ago, it was a serious charge.

“When the statutory declaration was made by Datuk Abdul Murad, many wanted to know what was the outcome of the police investigation.

“If it is true, what kind of further action are the authorities going to take.”

Khairy said Umno Youth would make a police report soon.

Anwar’s former ally, Datuk K.S. Nallakarupan, recently made a reference to Murad’s statutory declaration and sympathised with Anwar’s former aide, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, who had complained about the delay in his case.

Saiful had accused Anwar of sodomising him.

Khairy said Nallakarupan’s reference to the statutory declaration should be treated seriously as Nallakarupan was a close friend of Anwar’s and must have accurate information.

“If Datuk Nallakarupan still insists that ‘Anwar has many resources’, this has to be investigated in detail and comprehensively.”

Khairy said the Youth movement viewed the dirty tactics by the opposition seriously in the Bagan Pinang by-election.
