Govt leader threatens to boycott opposition media

You think our opposition politicians have it tough when dealing with the Barisan Nasional-controlled press?

Well, yes, they do have problems. Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin's travails with Utusan Malaysia when he was still in the menteri besar's office, Lim Guan Eng's difficulties with the NST's Penang bureau and Teresa Kok's
with Utusan Malaysia — yes, they had a load of problems. Still do.

And when they got angry, calling for a boycott, cutting them off from press conferences, much hot air resulted from Barisan Nasional apologists about the opposition's apparent about-turn on press freedom, and a lack of principle.

Anyone who isn't brain dead can tell that a newspaper or TV station owned by a political party isn't exactly a champion of free speech or of a free press.

Well in the land of the free, where public newspapers aren't owned by political parties, the leader of the free world doesn't have it so good either. Here's what the NYT reported yesterday:
