Opposition reps to attend Perak assembly sitting

KUALA LUMPUR: All 28 Perak Pakatan Rakyat representatives will attend the Oct 28 state assembly sitting.

Former Perak menteri besar Datuk Seri Nizar Jamaluddin said they have received notices from both ousted speaker V. Sivakumar and Speaker Datuk R. Ganesan to attend the assembly sitting.

“We’ve decided that all 28 PR representatives will attend the sitting as directed by Sivakumar — who is the legal speaker — to do so,” he said at a press conference at the opposition leader’s office in parliament yesterday.

He said he had no idea where they would sit in the house although by convention, the government representatives would sit on the right side of the speaker.

At a press conference earlier, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the Pakatan Rakyat had reaffirmed their commitment to rectify weaknesses in the coalition as well as strengthen their programmes.

He said difference of opinions would be solved within the coalition’s existing channels.

“I am not worried about our cooperation. I admit there are some weaknesses in PR but it can be resolved,” he said after a PR meeting yesterday at his office at the parliament’s tower block. He added that a PR convention will be held in Shah Alam from Dec 12-13.
