Gobind ban: Dewan move cannot be challenged in court

(The Star) – The High Court has ruled that the Dewan Rakyat proceedings which saw the suspension of Puchong Member of Parliament Gobind Singh Deo cannot be challenged in court.

However, it ordered that the lawyer be paid the remuneration due him, with interest.

On March 16, Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia suspended Gobind from performing his duties as the MP for Puchong after he had made allegation against then Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, and for being in contempt of the House.

Gobind contended that his suspension and the withholding of his remuneration, benefits and allowances were unconstitutional and that the Dewan Rakyat Speaker had no jurisdiction to do so.
