MACC back in Selangor to probe Ronnie Liu

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers returned to the Selangor state secretariat today after a long hiatus, this time interviewing DAP’s Ronnie Liu.

The Selangor executive councillor (Exco) told a press conference he was questioned as a “witness” into the misuse of state allocation in the Barisan Nasional (BN)-held Sungai Pelek state constituency.

His special assistant Wong Chuan How, who was present, is a suspect in the ongoing MACC probe.

MACC had previously investigated several other Selangor state executive councillors including Ean Yong Hian Wah but stopped when the Seri Kembangan assemblyman’s aide Teoh Beng Hock was found dead outside the anti-graft’s Shah Alam headquarters on July 16.

His death is now the subject of an inquest.

The Selangor government has barred its officers from being interviewed in the MACC office after Teoh’s death but the anti-graft body is contesting that order.

Liu said today that three MACC officers, from Putrajaya, arrived at the state secretariat at about 10.40am and completed their interview at about 1pm.

According to him, the MACC officers sought clarifications on eight cases where funds had been disbursed.

“I approved all the applications, and there were relevant documents and photos to prove payments were made to the appropriate people, he said.

“I believe all the allocations were used well and there are no misappropriations.”

The funds ranged from between RM1,200 and RM5,000.

Those who received the money included the victims of a fire and those who are physically challenged.

The money was also disbursed to a surau as well as for community projects and activities in the Sungai Pelek constituency.

“I feel the MACC officers were satisfied with the explanations,” said Liu.
