Congrats Datuk Lourdes Charles, you have just been sued!

For example, did The Star report the details of the two Datuks who are being sued by lawyer Rosli Dahlan? Maybe I missed that one but I do not remember reading it in the mainstream media — or rather the government-owned media that is not quite mainstream any longer.

“You could say I abused radio and TV, but it was a privilege I had. I could not depend on TV3, (The New) Straits Times, Berita Harian or Utusan Malaysia because they were then controlled by Anwar Ibrahim’s boys. I had no choice but to use RTM.”

“I was asked to bring PBS down. I shut the media off; there were no reports. People didn’t know what the Sabah Government was doing, so it looked like they were doing nothing. It was a very dirty tactic,” he now admits.

That was what Tan Sri Mohamed Rahmat said in his book that was launched on 12 October 2009. He admits he was not the Information Minister as much as he was Malaysia’s Propaganda Chief. And he used the mainstream media to the hilt, which, by his own admission, succeeded in influencing public opinion.

Yes, there is no denying that the mainstream media, including the electronic media, is nothing more than the government’s propaganda arm. And they do not report the news. They ‘spin’ and decide what ‘news’ reaches the public and what does not. Basically, the so-called mainstream media is merely the propaganda machine of the government.

Until 1998, that is. Then, when Reformasi exploded onto the Malaysian scene, the ‘alternative media’ gave the mainstream media a run for its money. Ten years on, by 2008, the alternative media had become the mainstream media while no one believed the government-owned media any longer.

For example, did The Star report the details of the two Datuks who are being sued by lawyer Rosli Dahlan? Maybe I missed that one but I do not remember reading it in the mainstream media — or rather the government-owned media that is not quite mainstream any longer.

Recently, just before Hari Raya, lawyer Rosli Dahlan sued Utusan Malaysia and several officers of the MACC for defamation and various other abuses. He is claiming RM50 million in damages.

While the story he revealed was itself explosive, what underlies it is the collusion between the mainstream media and the government apparatus in cooking up whatever story they need in order to achieve the desired objectives.

Realising that it was walking on very thin ice indeed, Utusan Malaysia went on its knees and apologised to Rosli “for their untruthful article published in a sensational manner to generate publicity which exceeded the parameters of ethical journalism”.

What bullshit! They only did that to avoid being sued by Rosli. But Rosli sued them anyway.

Unethical journalism is practised by the mainstream media all the time, as now Malaysia’s one-time Propaganda Chief himself admits in his book. And they have the gall to accuse the alternative media or blogs like Malaysia Today of irresponsible reporting and of publishing lies.

I have been accused of ‘running away’ to avoid the charges I am now facing, brought on by my allegation that Najib and Rosmah are involved in the Altantuya murder. MACC ridiculed my account that Teoh Beng Hock died after he was thrown out of the MACC office building. I revealed this the day Teoh died and it was pooh-poohed as fictitious and incredible.

Typical of government running dogs, the mainstream media reported that the evidence by the two Malaysian pathologists supported the theory that Teoh’s death was not homicide but suicide.

Razak Musa, the MACC’s Director Of Prosecution, even had the gall to suggest Teoh committed suicide because he was emotionally troubled following MACC’s “big discovery” that Teoh was staying in the same house with another woman who was not the fiancée he planned to marry. And the mainstream media sensationalised this story with total disregard for the grief of the Teoh family who were still mourning his death.

Reckless and pea-sized brain as ever, Razak couldn’t be bothered to check his facts that the woman was Teoh’s landlady from whom Teoh was renting a room, as most bachelors do.

They even adduced records of Teoh’s bank account in court to suggest that he killed himself because he was broke and was therefore troubled with the fact that he would not have enough money to support a family. So he chose the ‘easy way out’ by committing suicide.

All these smokescreens have of course now been blown away. And it was blown away by Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand’s medical finding that “Teoh’s death was 80% homicide”. Her argument was not mere speculation but supported by an extremely precise analysis of so many things that our two Malaysian pathologists either missed or couldn’t be bothered to see.

Dr Pornthip confirmed what most Malaysians had long suspected since Teoh’s “mysterious” death on July 15th. What is so stark in all this is the extensive cover-ups and the collusion by the government to protect MACC’s image.  But what is more revolting is the role the mainstream media played in cooking up stories just to make the MACC look good. It did not matter that they maligned or vilified the deceased Teoh.

In case you have not observed, of late, MACC was given prominence by the mainstream media to boost its image. And you find the mainstream media coming up with news ‘scoops’, which is actually information fed by the MACC and the police. Never mind such ‘leakages’ are an offence under the MACC Act. The mainstream media is never bothered about such things or about being accountable until they are sued.

All this is possible because you have prostitutes running these mainstream newspapers. That is why Wong Chun Wai was given a police award and a Datuk Seri. This so-called newsman is nothing short of a prostitute regardless of the number of titles decorating his name. And Lourdes Charles is yet another example of newsman turned prostitute who was recently awarded the DIMP, which makes him Datuk Lourdes!

In case you have not noticed, all the sensational reports about the police or the MACC are always the scoop of this newly installed PIMP Datuk…sorry…I meant DIMP Datuk. Today, Malaysia Today has a scoop for him. Congrats Datuk Lourdes Charles, you have just been sued!

I am sure this should make you more famous and will help The Star sell more newspapers.
