Jeffrey quits as VP, Sabah PKR sinking

While PKR could have picked the right man to head the party in Sarawak, the same cannot be said of the situation in Sabah.

Late last night, Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said he was resigning as PKR vice-president with immediate effect but would remain an ordinary member until his leave from party duties expires.

Jeffrey, seen as the main man in Sabah PKR, has not been happy with ‘interference’ from ‘mosquito leaders’ dispatched by the PKR headquarters to the state.

It was public knowledge that his supporters could not work with Azmin Ali, the previous Sabah PKR chief appointed by party supremo Anwar Ibrahim.

Why Jeffrey was not appointed

Azmin then decided to kick himself out of the Land Below the Wind, although his boss gave a ‘face-saving’ explanation that his tenure as Sabah PKR chief was up.

Throughout the past few weeks, it was clear that the majority of PKR divisions in Sabah wanted Jeffrey to be made the new state chief but it was not to be when the announcement came on Sunday.

Jeffrey was left out. Instead the little known Ahmad Thamrin Jaini was appointed to replace Azmin as the new Sabah PKR chairman.

Almost immediately, Jeffrey’s supporters went on the warpath. They wasted no time in letting it be known that Ahmad Thamrin was not acceptable to them.
