MP among three people arrested by MACC

(Bernama) — A member of parliament (MP), who is also a former Selangor assemblyman, was among three people nabbed by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Selangor today on suspicion of corruption and cheating.

The other two were an assistant of the MP and a former aide of the Selangor Menteri Besar, MACC said in a statement here.

It said the trio together with an aide of a Selangor state executive councillor (exco) and a director of a company would be charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court tomorrow morning for graft and cheating.

According to the statement, the MP had allegedly been involved in furnishing false claims when he served as an assemblyman with the assistant abetting in the matter.

The menteri besar’s aide is alleged to have cheated the head of a government-linked company (GLC) into paying RM50,000 for a function purportedly organised by the state government.

The aide of the exco is alleged to have submitted invoices containing false information to the Sepang district office while the company director allegedly furnished invoices for supply of goods for programmes carried out in the Teratai constituency to the Hulu Langat district office when in fact none were delivered.
