DAP: High-level conspiracy to suppress government’s involvement in PKFZ

DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang says the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report on the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal revealed the government’s plan to suppress information.

He said the report proves that the Cabinet has been lying to the people about the scandal which could cost taxpayers RM12.453 billion.

“The prime minister, the deputy prime minister and the Cabinet are all putting up a great pretense as if they are learning about the abuse of power, criminal breach of trust, illegalities and improprieties in various aspects of the PKFZ scandal for the first time when most of this information has been in their possession for quite some time,” he told a press conference.

Lim said the PAC should have also issued a “damning report” against the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and police for failing to uphold the law.

“If the government is really serious as claimed by Najib and Muhyiddin in wanting to get to the bottom of the PKFZ scandal, the various errant personalities would already have been hauled to court and standing trial for a multitude of criminal offences,” he said.

The PAC yesterday recommended that former Transport Minister Tan Sri Chan Kong Choy and former Port Klang Authority (PKA) general manager Datin Paduka O.C. Phang to be investigated for criminal breach of trust in the PKFZ scandal.

Lim also asked why Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan has not taken any action after heading the special task force into the PKFZ scandal in 2007.

“The Chief Secretary Tan Sri Mohd Sidek Hassan, now heading the special task force into the PFKZ scandal, was directed by the Cabinet to conduct an inquiry as to how the letters of support could have been issued unlawfully and to take the necessary disciplinary action against the culprits who have now landed the country with the RM12.5 billion PKFZ scandal,” he said.

Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng revealed that 90 per cent of the buildings in PKFZ do not have any certification of fitness (CF).

He urged the government to freeze Chan and Phang’s local and overseas assets.
