Ex-PRM chief Hassan joins Parti Keadilan

(Free Malaysia Today) – Parti Rakyat Malaysia president Hassan Abdul Karim has switched to Parti Keadilan Rakyat. He said he resigned from PRM because his proposal for the party to join Pakatan Rakyat was rejected by the party’s congress.

He submitted his membership application to PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday at the Johore PKR convention in Kluang.

“As my proposal to set new directions for the party was strongly opposed, I had no other option but to announce that I was relinquishing all posts,’’ said Hassan, 58, who made known his intention immediately after the PRM congress in Kuala Lumpur on Nov 17.

Hassan said he still loved PRM but felt that party, if it wanted to bring about changes, should not operate in isolation.

Eighty of the 100 delegates at the last PRM congress rejected Hassan’s proposal to join Pakatan. Many felt it should remain “a third force” and work with Pakatan instead of  formally joining the opposition coalition.

He resigned on Nov 17.
